In the summer of 2023, Frank and Deniz embarked on a journey to revolutionize the way we perceive and utilize wine corks. Thus, Corkular was born, driven by a vision to transform used wine stoppers from Barcelona’s vibrant restaurants into sustainable products for a greener future.
The journey began on the streets of Gracia, Barcelona, where relationships with local restaurant owners were forged, paving the way for the collection and recycling of wine stoppers. Regular visits every two weeks ensured a steady supply, laying the foundation for Corkular’s sustainable mission.
Driven by a commitment to innovation, Corkular embarked on a series of meetings with cork factories across Catalonia, to understand the cork creation process. These encounters provided insights into machinery, production possibilities and feature partnerships.
To deepen their understanding of cork’s potential, Frank and Deniz engaged with the Catalan Institute of Cork, immersing themselves in the material’s sustainability and future prospects. Armed with newfound knowledge, Corkular entered the design phase, envisioning a range of recycled cork products.
As Corkular prepares to release its product line, the team eagerly anticipates sharing their passion for a greener, circular future with like-minded partners.
Today, we’re excited to unveil our official website, where we’re working closely with our talented designers to bring our circular ideas about cork to life. Our focus initially lies on the Dutch marketplace due to our roots, where we’re introducing recycled corks sourced from the mainland of Spain.
